The entire professional beauty salon channel (hair salons and beauty salons or day spas) in Spain benefits from the widespread concern of the Spanish beauty care consumer with their appearance. Sales are growing at up to 20% in some salons. Similarly, a generalized desire to reduce or delay signs of ageing is boosting growth in beauty institutes and day spas.

Spanish salons are increasing their sales as more and more men switch from the traditional, if spartan, barbershop to the more luxurious salon surroundings for their haircut. In fact, men can account for a quarter of salon clients. Unisex salons have boosted sales by opening a separate men-only section for Spanish men who are uncomfortable with the overly “feminine” ambience of the hairsalon.

While salons in Spain continue to diversify into non hair services to meet the requirements of their time-pressed clients, hair care treatments still account for most of salon sales. Skilled services lead as colouring - in particular specialist and high quality services which command premium prices - accounts for more than half of Spanish hair salon business.
